Whittier Water Taxi offers a kayaking drop off and rental service in Prince William Sound for up to 6 guests at a time. We use Perception Eclipse 17’ single kayaks and Prijon Excursion 19’ double kayaks.

Kayak rental rates:

Singles: $30/day
Doubles: $45/day

Eshamy Bay, Eshamy Lagoon, and around Crafton Island are all excellent kayaking locations with numerous interconnecting passages, islets, lagoons and beaches. There are good camping locations in the area as well and this area is great for a multi-day kayaking trip. These waters are protected from the open sea and are most often calm, affording easy paddling to both beginners and experienced sea-kayakers. Eshamy Lagoon has a wide diversity of bird life, including waterfowl, Arctic terns, marbled murrelets, black oystercatchers, loons, Prince William Sound Canada geese, nesting eagles and cormorants as well as many migrants passing through such as sand hill cranes, trumpeter swans and shorebirds. Wildlife you can see includes black bear, sea otters (often with pups), land otters, mink, Sitka black-tailed deer, seals, and sea lions. Hump-backed whales and orcas often frequent Eshamy Bay and the Crafton Island area. At the head of the lagoon is a well-maintained 1.3 mile hiking trail that takes you up to Eshamy Lake where the cutthroat trout and Dolly Varden fishing is awesome! 

Another awesome kayaking area for a multi-day, sea-kayaking adventure is Nassau Fjord. You can get dropped off in Icy Bay – named that for good reason! From here you can explore the fjord leading to the mighty Chenega Glacier and the neighboring Tiger-tail Glacier. The area is seldom frequented by boats and is truly pristine with hundreds of harbor seals calling it home. The glacial activity at Chenega Glacier is impressive! From here you can also kayak to Whale Bay.
